canは「～することができる」という意味で、「能力」や「可能」を表します。キーフレーズYou can speak English very well.は、「能力」を表していますね。また、「今日のストーリー」にあるYou can buy neckties near the office.は「可能」です。

なお、「許可」を表すこともあります。例えば、You can sit here.「あなたはここに座ってもいいですよ」、Can I leave now? 「私は、今、退出してもいいですか？」のように使います。

セブでクライアントと会うのは初めて会うケンは、少し緊張気味です。
まだ英語に自信がないのが、その理由。
そんなケンに「君の英語はとても上手だよ。」と励ますジェームズ。
しかし、ケンには心配な理由がもう一つ。
実は結局あのお店で、動物の柄のネクタイを買ってしまったんです…！

Ken: I’m a little nervous.	ケン：ちょっと緊張してるよ。
James: Why are you nervous?	ジェームズ：どうして緊張しているの？
Ken: I’m not confident about my English.	ケン：英語に自信がないからさ。
James: You can speak English very well.	ジェームズ：君の英語はとても上手だよ。
James: Don’t worry about it.	ジェームズ：心配するなよ。
Ken: I’m also worried about this necktie.	ケン：このネクタイのことも心配なんだ。
James: Hmm... I just noticed that.	ジェームズ：ふぅむ…今、気がついたよ。
James: Why are you wearing that?	ジェームズ：どうしてそんなのしているんだい？
Ken: I couldn't find a proper necktie, so I ended up buying this in a rush.	ケン：ちゃんとしたネクタイが見つからなくて、結局、大急ぎでこれを買っちゃったんだよ。
James: It has cartoon animals on it.	ジェームズ：アニメの動物柄だね。
James: I mean, it’s cute, but...	ジェームズ：いや、かわいいけど、でもちょっと。
James: You can buy neckties near the office.	ジェームズ：このオフィスの近くでもネクタイは買えるよ。
James: You know that, right?	ジェームズ：知ってるよね？
Ken: I know, I know.	ケン：知ってる、知ってる。
Ken: Let’s just go.	ケン：もういいから行こう。

canはbe able toに置き換えることができます。
One hundred percentは、そのまま100%ということですが、Absolutely、Completely、Perfectlyなどに置き換えることができます。意味はいずれも「もちろん」「間違いなく」「完璧に」など。
criticalは「重大な」「重要な」、confidenceは「自信」、convinceは「納得させる」、fluent「流暢な」。
