今日のポイント

whichは「どちら、どれ」という意味です。〈Which+～（疑問文）?〉の形で、「どちらが～ですか？」と尋ねる表現となり、限られた選択肢の中から選ぶ際に用います。
「今日のストーリー」のWhich do you feel like doing today?のように、A or Bの選択肢が続かない形もあります。なお、Which is better, taxi or train?「タクシーと電車ではどちらがいいですか？」、Which is your jacket?「どちらがあなたの上着ですか？」のように〈Which is（be動詞）～?〉「どちらが～ですか？」の形でも同じような使い方ができます。

今日は休日。ケンは久しぶりにジウをデートに誘いました。
さて、映画鑑賞かカラオケかどっちがいいのかな。映画を観るならロマンティック・コメディとアクション映画とどっちがいいのかな。

which+～（名詞）は、「どの～」「どちらの～」という意味です。従って、which departmentは「どの部署」「どちらの部署」。
〈Which+～（名詞）＋…（一般動詞）〉、あるいは、〈Which+～（名詞）＋…（疑問文）?〉で、「どの～が…ですか？と尋ねる表現です。
Which department (do you think) deserved to win?、Which department (do you think) performed the best?は、いずれもdo you thinkが挿入されています。つまり、それぞれ「どの部署が勝つのにふさわしいとあなたは思いますか？」、「どの部署が最も優れた業績をあげたとあなたは思いますか？」という意味になります。 deserveは「（賞などを）受けるにふさわしい」、performは「（仕事・義務などを）実行する」。
