今日のポイント

受け身（受動態）の疑問文は、be動詞を文頭に置きます。助動詞がある文の場合は、助動詞を文頭に置きます。例えば、The party will be held next month.→Will the party be held next month?「パーティは来月開催される予定でしょうか？」のようになります。

「問題は解決しましたか？」ホテルの人が心配しています。
警察が財布をみつけてくれたと、ケンがホテルの人に答えています。
さて、そろそろチェックアウトの時間になり、クレジットカードで料金を支払います。
あれ、ケン、そのカードは無効にしたんじゃなかったっけ？
ところで、ケンに部屋に入ったのは誰だったんでしょうか...お化け!?

Hotel Staff : Was your problem solved?	ホテルの人 : 問題は解決しましたか？
Ken : Yes. The police found my wallet.	ケン : ええ、警察がぼくの財布をみつけてくれました。
Hotel Staff : That’s very fortunate.	ホテルの人 : それはとてもラッキーでしたね。
Ken : Yes. I’d like to check out now.	ケン : はい、もうチェックアウトしたいのですが。
Hotel Staff : Of course. Here’s your bill.	ホテルの人 : もちろんです。こちらがご請求書になります。
Ken : Thank you. Is this credit card accepted?	ケン : ありがとう。クレジットカード払いでいいですか？
Hotel Staff : Yes.	ホテルの人 : はい。
Hotel Staff : I’m sorry sir. Your card was declined.	ホテルの人 : すみません、お客さまのカードが拒否されました。
Ken : Oh, right... I canceled it.	ケン : あ、そうだ。無効にしたんだ。

Jiu: Let me see.

Let me see.は「私に見せてください」という意味ですが、他にもちょっと考えたり、言葉につまったときなどに、「ええっと」「そうねえ」「うーん」のような意味でよく使います。その際は、Let’s see.としても同じ意味で使えます。
sort through～は「～をより分ける／分類する」、amuseは「面白がらせる」、beg to differは「失礼ながら同意しかねる」。
