今日のポイント

一般的な感謝の表現のひとつがThank you.です。キーフレーズのように、〈Thank you for～(名詞・名詞相当語句)〉の形、あるいはThank you.の形があります。なお、「今日のストーリー」にもあるように、appreciate「感謝する」を用いると、よりフォーマルになります。

とっても楽しかったマンガ・フェスティバル。
「誘ってくれてありがとう」ジウはケンに感謝をしています。
「趣味に熱中するのを許してくれて、ありがとう」
「日本の文化に興味を持ってくれて、ありがとう」
ジウに感謝しまくりのケン。

Jiu : I want to start reading more manga now.	ジウ : わたしももっとマンガが読みたくなったわ。
Ken : Thank you so much for indulging me in my hobbies.	ケン : ぼくが趣味に夢中になるのを許してくれてありがとう。
Jiu : You don’t have to thank me.	ジウ : わたしに感謝なんていいのよ。
Jiu : I really enjoyed it!	ジウ : ほんとに楽しかったんだから！
Ken : Manga is not all silly comic books.	ケン : マンガはくだらないお笑いばかりじゃないんだ。

You bet.は「どういたしまして」「もちろん」という意味のカジュアルな表現です。ダイアローグでは、Thank youに対して使っているので、You’re welcome.「どういたしまして」の意になりますね。
他にも、Are you coming to the party tonight?「今晩のパーティに来る？」－You bet!「もちろん！」のように使います。これはOf course.「もちろん」と同意になります。
hit the sales targetは「売り上げ目標を達成する」、take on「（仕事・責任などを）引き受ける」。
