Cindy : Ken, let me introduce you to Rob. シンディ : ケン、あなたにロブを紹介させてください。
Rob : Hi Ken! How’s it going? ロブ : やあ、ケン。調子はどう？
Ken : Great! It’s nice to meet you, Rob.
I’m new around here.		 ケン : とてもいいです。会えて嬉しいです、ロブ。
私はここでは新人です。
Rob : No problem!
I’ll show you the ropes.		 ロブ : 大丈夫！
僕が仕事を教えるよ。
Ken : Thanks, Rob! ケン : ありがとう、ロブ！
Rob : Do you want to get some lunch? ロブ : ランチを食べに行く？
Ken : Definitely.
I’m starving!		 ケン : もちろん。

    「ケン、ジョーンズさんを紹介したいのですが」
  • ✔ Ms. Jones, this is my boss, Mr. Sato.
    「ジョーンズさん、こちらは私の上司の佐藤です」
adviser 欧米では、挨拶を交わしながら握手をする場面が多いのですが、握手は弱すぎないように注意しましょう。 力が入っていない握手は“limp handshake”「弱々しい握手」や、“dead fish handshake”「死んだ魚のような弱々しい握手」などと呼ばれ、良い印象を与えません。 ”limp“は「弱々しい」「元気のない」という意味です。
adviser 日本人同士がするような深いお辞儀は必要なく、軽くうなずく程度で十分です。ただし、相手の目をしっかり見ることとスマイルを忘れないようにしましょう。
adviser “show ～the ropes.”は、「～に仕事のコツを教える」という意味です。これは、「帆船のロープの扱い方を新人に教える」という意味から派生した表現です。
