今日のポイント
今日は、“should”よりも幾分強い義務や必要性を表す表現の“have to”「～しなければならない」を学習します。
adviser “have to”は、周囲の状況などから客観的に見て、「～をする義務、必要性がある」というときに使います。なお、その否定形の“do not have to”は、「～する必要はない」という意味で、「～してはいけない」という『禁止』の意味にはならないので注意してください。
adviser ちなみに、この『禁止』を表現する場合は、”must”「～しなくてはならない」の否定形“must not / mustn’t“を用います。例えば、”You mustn’t go out.“「出かけてはダメだよ」 のようになります。

Manny : What do you think of this facility? マニー : この施設についてどう思いますか？
Ken : It was a great learning experience.
But I did notice a few things that could be improved. 		ケン : とても良い勉強になりました。
しかし、いくつか改善の余地があることに気づきました。
Manny : Such as? マニー : たとえば？
Ken : We have to reduce production cost.
We also have to eliminate excess inventory.
We would also like you to review the production process.
But please make sure to maintain quality management. 		ケン : 私たちは生産コストを削減する必要があります。
それと、不必要な在庫を排除する必要がありますね。
それと、生産工程も見直していただけますか？
でも、品質管理の保持は必ずお願いします。
Manny : You sure have a lot of demands! マニー : 要望が多いですね！
Ken : I know it’s a lot to ask. ケン : 要望が多すぎることは分かっていますが。

ワンポイント・アドバイス
adviser “have to”は、”have got to”に置き換えることができます。また、実際の口語では“got to” は、”gotta”と短縮して発音されるので、”have gotta” となり、かつ、”have”も省略し、”gotta”のみを用いる場合が多くあります。つまり、以下のようになります。
adviser “I have to go.” → “I have got to go.” → “I`ve got to go.” → “I’ve gotta go.”
→“I gotta go.”　「わたし、行かなきゃ」
