英語で「私は～と思います／考えます」と言いたいとき、真っ先に“I think ～.”が思いつくかもしれません。でも、これだけではなく、”opinion”「意見、考え」を用いて、”in my opinion”「私の意見ですが、個人的な見解ですが」のように、自分の意見を伝えることができます。

Cindy : Can you explain to the client about the benefits of our product, Ken? シンディ : ケン、お客さまに当社の製品のメリットについて説明できる？
Ken : Well... ケン : ええと…
Rob : In my opinion, you should learn more about the product, Ken! ロブ : 僕の意見では、君はもっと製品について勉強すべきだよ、ケン。
Cindy : Yeah. I think so, too.
Do you have any suggestions, Sato-san?		 シンディ : ええ、私もそう思うわ。
何かご提案はありますか、佐藤さん。
Sato : Let's see... Ken, you should consider visiting the factory. サトウ : そうですね、、、。ケン、君は工場見学について検討すべきではないかな。
Ken : That sounds like a good opportunity to learn more about the product. ケン : それは、製品について学ぶいい機会だと思います。
Rob : I’ll go with you, Ken! ロブ : 僕もいっしょに行くよ、ケン！

ワンポイント・アドバイス
adviser “you should ～.”「君は～すべきだよ」と伝える前に、“In my opinion,”を置くことで、 断定的ではない柔らかい表現にすることができます。他にも、“I could be wrong, but ～.”「私は間違っているかもしれません、でも～」 のように、まず自分の意見が必ずしも正しいわけではないと前置きした上で、「～」の部分に自分の意見を述べることもできます。
adviser 英語の会議では、必ず発言することが大切です。もし、意見がまとまっていないなら、黙っていないで、まず“Well . . .”や“Let me see . . .”などと口に出し、続いて”I don’t have any opinion right now.“「今のところは意見はありません」、”I need more time to consider this.“ 「もう少しこれに関して考える時間が必要です」などと、きちんと伝えましょう。英語圏での会議では「沈黙は金」どころか、興味や関心がない、貢献していないとみなされます。
