「御社の製品に興味があります」と、 ケンは、取引業者の社長デビッドに見積もりを依頼。クライアントに製品を売り込むだけでなく、取引業者との交渉もケンの仕事です。デビッドは台湾からセブに移住してきて、会社を一から立ち上げたつわものです。交渉はうまくいくかな？

Unit 51〜55では、取引業者との交渉に役立つ英語を学習しましょう。見積依頼から、価格・納期交渉、そして発注までの一連の流れを学習していきます。
adviser 取引業者との交渉はメールで行われることも多いと思います。そのため、Unit 91〜95では、英文メールで役立つ表現も紹介します。これらの表現は、話すことができれば、書くことはそれほど難しくないはずです。
adviser “be interested in ～.”　「～に興味があります」は、皆さん中学で学んでいると思いますが、見積もり依頼など業者への最初の問い合わせメール・電話などでよく使われる定番の表現ですので、使いこなせるようにしておきましょう。

Ken : Hi David.
I’m Ken, from Hayabusa Motors Philippines.
I emailed you earlier today. 		ケン : こんにちは、デビッド。
ハヤブサ・モータース・フィリピンのケンです。
先ほどメールをお送りしました。
David : Oh, yes. Hello Ken.
I was just reading your email. 		デビッド : ああ、そうですね。こんにちは、ケン。
ちょうど今そのメールを読んでいたところです。
Ken : We are interested in your product, DH-4498.
Could you send us an estimate for 2,000 units? 		ケン : 御社の製品、DH-4498 に興味があるのですが。
2,000 個分の見積もりを送っていただけますか？
David : Absolutely.
I’ll send it to you this afternoon. 		デビッド : もちろんです。

ワンポイント・アドバイス
adviser “be interested in ～”は、“I’m interested in scuba diving.”　「私はスキューバダイビングに興味があります」のように自分の興味・趣味を伝えることができますので、スモールトークでも活用しましょう。interestedは、動詞interest「興味を起こさせる」の過去分詞から派生した「興味を持った」という意味の形容詞です。
adviser 一方、scuba divingを主語にする場合、現在分詞から派生した形容詞interesting「興味深い」を用いて、“Scuba diving is interesting to me.”「スキューバダイビングは私にとって興味深いです」になります。つまり、〈人＋過去分詞〉、〈もの＋現在分詞〉です。

その他の例：

“I’m bored with this movie.” 「私はこの映画に退屈しています」
“This movie is boring to me.” 「この映画は私にとって退屈です」
adviser なお、〈人＋現在分詞〉を使う場合もあります。例えば、“　He is boring.”は「彼は退屈な人です」という意味になります。
adviser “estimate”と”quotation”の違い：
いずれも「見積書」と訳されますが、意味合いは少々異なります。
“quotation”は、金額が確定した「正式見積」のことで、通常は提示した後の金額変更できません。
“estimate”は「概算見積」という意味で、諸条件により金額が変更される可能性がある見積書のことです。
