今日のポイントUnit 56〜60では、交渉の英語を扱います。クロージングの英語といっても、特別な英語表現があるわけではありません。交渉の目的を達成するための表現で、これまでに皆さんが学んできたさまざまな構文や語彙をうまく活用していきます。
今日は、“How does that sound (to you)?”という表現を学習します。直訳は「それはあなたにどう聞こえますか？」ですが、「どう思いますか？」「いかがでしょうか？」という意味で、相手の意見を聞くときに使います。
交渉の場では、相手に何か提案をした後に、“How does that sound?”と言って、相手の意向や意見を伺うことができます。

ワンポイント・アドバイス
〈“sounds” + 形容詞〉の形で、色々な表現ができます。例えば、“Sounds good.”「良さそうだね「いいね」のようになります。これは、相手の話を聞いて、なかなかよさそうだと思ったときなどに使います。ちなみに、“That sounds good.”の主語の部分“That”が省略されています。
同じパターンで他にも色々な表現ができます。

表現の省略は口語ではよくあります。thatやitの代名詞やbe動詞は意味が薄いのでよく略される傾向にあります。

“I can tell.” 「わかります」「」の”tell”は、「知っている」「わかる」という意味です。よりカジュアルな表現には、“Tell me about it!” 「そのとおり」「百も承知だよ」があります。これは、“You don’t have to tell me about it！”を略した表現です。
“decided”は、「決定した」だけでなく、「よく考えて結局〜という結論に達した」の意味で使われることがあります。以下、参考にしてください。
